The sacred festival of Guru Purnima holds a revered place in Hindu tradition. Celebrated with great devotion across India, it is a day of spiritual alignment, divine gratitude, and powerful rituals. While traditionally devoted to honoring one’s guru, this day is also considered highly auspicious for worshipping Maa Lakshmi and Chandra Dev (the Moon).
In 2025, Guru Purnima falls on 10th July, and it brings with it a unique celestial configuration. The presence of Bhadra, though slightly active, adds a layer of significance that devotees must understand before performing any rituals. Additionally, the Moon will be positioned in Sagittarius, and this placement plays a crucial role in determining the influence of Bhadra and the effectiveness of worship performed on this day.
Let us dive into the significance, astrological highlights, puja timing, and complete step-by-step Lakshmi-Chandra Puja Vidhi for Guru Purnima 2025.
Guru Purnima 2025: Date, Timing & Astrological Significance
According to the Hindu Panchang, Ashadha Purnima Tithi will begin on
🕐 10 July 2025 at 01:36 AM and end on
🕑 11 July 2025 at 02:06 AM.
As per the tradition of celebrating festivals based on Udaya Tithi (sunrise-based calculation), Guru Purnima will be observed on 10 July 2025.
This year, the Moon will reside in Dhanu Rashi (Sagittarius) during Guru Purnima. This placement ensures that Bhadra’s effects will not manifest on Earth, since Bhadra is considered active only when the Moon resides in Cancer, Leo, Aquarius, or Pisces. Hence, while Bhadra Kaal will be active from 05:31 AM to 01:55 PM, its influence is not Earth-bound, and major rituals can be performed after this period with full devotion.
Choghadiya Muhurat for Puja and Snan-Daan
The most favorable time for performing ritual bathing and puja on Guru Purnima is the early morning Choghadiya Muhurat, considered both spiritually potent and astrologically aligned:

Powerful Rituals to Follow on Guru Purnima 2025
On this spiritually charged day, the alignment of celestial bodies creates a perfect atmosphere to perform Lakshmi Puja, Chandra Arghya, and Guru Vrat Katha for abundance, peace, and spiritual growth.
🔱 Spiritual Bathing (Snan) and Purification
Begin your day early. Wake up during Brahma Muhurat, and take a bath in a holy river such as Ganga or Yamuna. If this is not possible, mix Ganga Jal in your bathing water to purify yourself physically and spiritually.
Wear fresh, clean, or new traditional clothes—preferably white or yellow for men, red or pink for women—colors associated with purity and divine energy.
🌺 Lakshmi and Vishnu Abhishek
Set up a clean altar in your puja space. Place idols or pictures of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi.
- Offer Jalabhishek using sacred water or Panchamrit (mixture of milk, curd, honey, ghee, and sugar).
- Add a few drops of Ganga Jal to the water.
- Use a silver or copper kalash for pouring water during abhishek.
This abhishek represents cleansing of karma and opens the doors for wealth and prosperity.
🪔 Offerings to Maa Lakshmi
After Abhishek, begin Shodashopachara Puja:
- Offer red sandalwood, rose petals, kumkum, and sindoor to Goddess Lakshmi.
- Adorn her with red bangles, bindi, and saree cloth (if available).
- Light a ghee diya and incense sticks in front of the deities.
- Chant “Shree Lakshmi Ashtottara Shatanamavali” or recite Shree Lakshmi Suktam.
This worship strengthens your financial foundation and removes obstacles related to wealth.
🧘 Observe a Vrat (Fast)
Keeping a vrat (fast) on Guru Purnima is highly meritorious. One may observe nirjala vrat (waterless) or consume only fruits and milk during the day.
Take a Sankalp (vow) during puja, seeking the blessings of your Guru and the divine powers for health, clarity, wisdom, and abundance.
📖 Read Guru Purnima Vrat Katha
Guru Purnima is incomplete without reading the Vrat Katha, which honors the divine lineage of Gurus and recounts the story of Ved Vyasa—the compiler of the Vedas and the Mahabharata.
Reading this tale increases reverence for one’s spiritual guides and aligns the devotee with the Guru Tattva (energy of guidance and wisdom).
🌕 Moon Worship at Chandrodaya
As the Moon rises, offer Arghya to Chandra Dev with a copper vessel. The Arghya should contain raw milk, white rice, sugar, and rose petals.
Chant “Om Chandraya Namah” or Chandra Gayatri Mantra as you offer water. This practice soothes the mind, improves emotional balance, and removes mental disturbances.
🍚 Bhog and Aarti
Prepare kheer (rice pudding) or any white sweet as bhog to Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Vishnu.
Perform Aarti with complete devotion, singing traditional Lakshmi and Vishnu aartis. Offer fruits, sweets, and water to the deities before partaking.
🙏 Closing Prayer and Forgiveness
