After the divine celebration of Janmashtami, when devotees welcome Bal Gopal into their homes with devotion and joy, another auspicious occasion follows – Laddu Gopal’s Chhathi. Just as Sanatan Dharma honors the sixth day after a child’s birth with the Chhathi ceremony, devotees celebrate Lord Krishna’s Chhathi in the same manner. This festival is not just a continuation of Janmashtami but a deeply spiritual event that brings devotees closer to the divine child form of Lord Krishna. The day is filled with temple decorations, soulful bhajans, special rituals, and traditional offerings that symbolize both love and devotion for Bal Gopal.
Laddu Gopal’s Chhathi Date in 2025
In 2025, the observance of Chhathi depends on when devotees celebrate Krishna Janmashtami. Those who celebrated Krishna Janmashtami on 15th August 2025 (based on Nishita Kaal) will perform Chhathi on 21st August 2025. Meanwhile, devotees who observed Janmashtami on 16th August 2025 (based on Udaya Tithi) will celebrate Laddu Gopal’s Chhathi on 22nd August 2025. For those observing on 22nd August, the most auspicious time to perform rituals will be during the Abhijit Muhurat, from 11:58 AM to 12:50 PM. These timings hold immense importance as they ensure maximum spiritual benefits and divine blessings.
Spiritual Significance of Chhathi
The Chhathi celebration is rooted in the Sanatan tradition, where the sixth day after a child’s birth is considered sacred. It is believed that on this day, Goddess Shashti blesses the child with good health, protection, and prosperity. In the case of Lord Krishna, Chhathi symbolizes the divine continuation of his arrival into the world, reminding devotees of his eternal presence. Temples and homes resonate with chants, decorations, and prayers, reflecting the same joy as that of a newborn’s family celebration. This day strengthens the bond between devotees and Laddu Gopal, allowing them to experience the joy of nurturing and caring for him as their own divine child.
Rituals and Celebrations of Chhathi
The rituals of Laddu Gopal’s Chhathi are performed with utmost devotion. The day begins with an early morning bath and meditation, followed by the Abhishek of Laddu Gopal using Panchamrit, a sacred mixture of milk, curd, honey, ghee, and sugar. After the holy bath, Laddu Gopal is adorned with new clothes, ornaments, and decorations. The temple or altar is beautifully decorated with fresh flowers, lights, and colorful cloths. Tulsi leaves, Morpankh (peacock feather), flute, and even a branch of the Kadamba tree, which is especially dear to Krishna, are placed near his idol to enhance the spiritual atmosphere.
Offering Bhog is one of the most significant aspects of this day. Among all offerings, Kadhi-Chawal holds a special place. Prepared with curd, gram flour, and mild spices, it is considered the main Bhog for Chhathi. Alongside this, devotees also prepare Makhan-Mishri, fruits, sweets, and other delicacies. Once offered to Laddu Gopal, these items are distributed as Prasad among devotees and family members. Singing Krishna bhajans, reciting mantras like “Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya” and “Hare Krishna Hare Rama”, and organizing kirtans further elevate the divine energy of the occasion.
Another important element of Chhathi is engaging in acts of kindness. Feeding the poor, distributing food, or helping the needy is considered highly meritorious on this day. It not only spreads positivity but also aligns devotees with the compassionate nature of Lord Krishna.
Deeper Importance of Chhathi
Celebrating Laddu Gopal’s Chhathi brings immense spiritual rewards. Devotees believe that by performing these rituals with sincerity, they receive Krishna’s blessings in the form of prosperity, happiness, and protection from obstacles. The tradition mirrors the love and affection parents show towards their newborn, allowing devotees to feel an emotional and spiritual connection with Lord Krishna as Bal Gopal. It is this bond of love, innocence, and divine care that makes the Chhathi celebration so unique and powerful.
