In Hinduism, rituals and offerings form a vital part of worship, serving as a bridge between the devotee and the divine. Among these, the practice of offering a chola to Hanuman Ji holds a special place. This ritual is not just a physical act but a profound expression of faith, devotion, and a yearning for divine blessings.
What is a Chola?
A chola is a sacred offering made by applying a paste of red sindoor mixed with camphor oil to the idol of Hanuman Ji. This paste is symbolic of strength, purity, and divine energy. Before applying the chola, the idol is bathed in clean water and a little ghee is applied, signifying purification and reverence. Some devotees also embellish the chola with intricate silver or gold work, adding a layer of opulence and respect to the ritual.
Symbolism Behind the Chola
The red sindoor used in the chola is deeply symbolic. In Hindu culture, red represents energy, power, and devotion—qualities that resonate with the essence of Lord Hanuman. As a symbol of unwavering strength and purity, Hanuman Ji inspires his devotees to overcome obstacles and remain steadfast in their spiritual journey. The act of offering a chola is a way of aligning oneself with these divine qualities.
